In order to start using Float, you first have to connect your bank account to load funds into your float balance!
You have a few options for linking a bank account to your Float account. The default option provided is usually Plaid, and you can contact us if you want to try Flinks.
- Instant Link Plaid (default) - Connect using Plaid, a secure financial data provider, to connect and authenticate your bank account.
- Instant Link Flinks (email support to switch from default) - Connect using Flinks, a secure financial data provider, to connect and authenticate your bank account.
- Manual Connection (support approval only) - You manually provide your banking details (three numbers found on a void cheque or direct deposit form). To get a manual connection, you will need to click "talk to support' so that we can provide you with the manual deposit instructions!
Instant link via Plaid
Plaid is third-party secure service that verifies your bank account information and will link your bank account to your Float profile safely. Plaid handles authentication off our servers. They securely interface with your bank, and we never see your username or password.
Walk-through steps:
-
Review and accept Plaid's data security and privacy policy
2. Search for and select your Canadian bank
3. Provide your banking credentials. Don't worry — neither Float nor Plaid stores this information! For most banks, a simple username and password will do, but for others, there may be additional security or two-factor authentication questions.
4. Once authenticated, Float will connect with all your bank accounts. For your security, depending on your financial institution, there may be additional security questions at this point.
5. You're connected!
If there is an error along the way or you want to stop using the Plaid connection method, you can cancel at any time. In this case, you can use the manual connection method.
5. Choose your Bank Account
Navigate to Float and select your primary account - this is the account that will fund your Float card.
- If you are on Charge Card, you will also have the option of selecting auto-paydowns to your limit here.
- If you are on the Pre-Paid program, you will also have the option of selecting auto-funding here.
Manual link
To link your bank account manually, enter your Company Name, Company Email and agree with the Preauthorized Debt Agreement. You'll see two submission buttons - you'll want to select 'Manual Connection' to work directly through Float.
You will need the following information to manually link your account —
-
Institution Number (3 digits)
-
Branch or Transit Number (5 digits)
-
Account Number (7-11 digits)
To find these numbers, please follow the instructions for your banking institution (CIBC, RBC, BMO, Scotiabank, TD, National Bank).
If you run into any issues setting the manual connection up, please send us an email with a void cheque/direct deposit form to support@floatcard.com
